Tropical coastal and marine research in the Earth System Science group at MMU is focused on the geological evolution and geomorphology of coral reef and mangrove sedimentary systems. Particular areas of research interest relate to (1) the processes controlling tropical coastal and shallow marine facies development, (2) environmental impacts on reef growth and carbonate accumulation, and (3) tropical records of Holocene sea-level and environmental change. Recent and on-going research projects have been focused on sites along the central Great Barrier Reef coastline in Australia, in northern Jamaica, the Bahamas, in southern Mozambique, and on Rodrigues in the SW Indian Ocean. Recent projects have been funded through the NERC, The Leverhulme Trust, The Royal Society, The Nuffield Foundation and PEMEX.
